Syncfusion Gantt vs ScheduleJS
Syncfusion Gantt and ScheduleJS are not direct substitutes. If you're choosing between them, you're deciding whether your application needs a project scheduling component with auto-scheduling, critical path, baselines, and export, or an Angular-only canvas visualization engine where your team owns the scheduling logic.
Start with these questions:
- Does the organization qualify for the Syncfusion Community License?
- Is Angular the only target framework?
- Does the application provide its own scheduling logic, or does it need auto-scheduling and critical path built in?
This comparison uses these criteria:
- Installation and setup
- Licensing and cost
- Scheduling features
- Rendering model
- Export support
- Framework support
- TypeScript support
- AI support

Syncfusion Gantt
Syncfusion Gantt is a commercial JavaScript Gantt component that is part of the Essential Studio suite. The Community License makes it free for qualifying organizations. The full feature set is available under both the community and commercial licenses:
- Auto-scheduling
- Critical path
- Baselines
- Task splitting
- Resource management
- Undo/redo
The Community License requires less than $1 million USD in annual gross revenue, five or fewer developers, and ten or fewer total employees. Teams receiving external funding must have less than $3 million from private equity or venture capital.
Installing Syncfusion Gantt
The package is available on the public npm registry:
npm install @syncfusion/ej2-gantt@33.2.4
A license key suppresses the trial validation banner. Community License holders generate a key from the My Account section of the Syncfusion website, then register it before initializing any component:
import { registerLicense } from '@syncfusion/ej2-base';
registerLicense('your-license-key-here');
This minimal setup shows a two-phase project with dependencies. CSS covers the Gantt component and all its dependencies:
<!-- index.html -->
<style>
html, body { margin: 0; height: 100%; }
#container { height: 100vh; }
</style>
<div id="container"></div>
import { registerLicense } from '@syncfusion/ej2-base';
import { Gantt, Edit, Selection, Toolbar } from '@syncfusion/ej2-gantt';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-base/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-buttons/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-calendars/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-dropdowns/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-inputs/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-navigations/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-popups/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-richtexteditor/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-treegrid/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-grids/styles/material.css';
import '@syncfusion/ej2-gantt/styles/material.css';
registerLicense('your-license-key-here');
Gantt.Inject(Edit, Selection, Toolbar);
const data = [
{
TaskID : 1,
TaskName : 'Phase 1: Discovery',
subtasks : [
{ TaskID : 2, TaskName : 'Requirements', StartDate : new Date('2026-05-01'), Duration : 5, Progress : 100 },
{ TaskID : 3, TaskName : 'Design', StartDate : new Date('2026-05-08'), Duration : 8, Progress : 20, Predecessor : '2' }
]
}
];
new Gantt({
dataSource : data,
height : '100%',
taskFields : {
id : 'TaskID',
name : 'TaskName',
startDate : 'StartDate',
duration : 'Duration',
progress : 'Progress',
dependency : 'Predecessor',
child : 'subtasks'
},
columns : [
{ field : 'TaskName', headerText : 'Task', width : 250 },
{ field : 'Duration', headerText : 'Duration', width : 80 },
{ field : 'Progress', headerText : '%', width : 60 }
],
labelSettings : { leftLabel : 'TaskName' },
splitterSettings : { position : '40%' },
projectStartDate : new Date('2026-05-01'),
projectEndDate : new Date('2026-05-20'),
toolbar : ['ZoomIn', 'ZoomOut', 'ZoomToFit'],
highlightWeekends : true
}).appendTo('#container');
Four setup details require attention:
- The
Gantt.Inject()call must come before instantiation with any feature modules (Edit,Selection,Toolbar, and others). - CSS must cover the Gantt component and all its dependencies. The styles shown above can be replaced with a single Syncfusion combined theme file.
- The
taskFieldsconfig maps data property names to Gantt field identifiers. - The
registerLicense()call must come before the first component mounts.

Syncfusion Gantt is best when Syncfusion's Community License fits
The Community License is the main differentiator. Qualifying organizations get these features at no cost, with no feature gating between community and commercial tiers:
- Auto-scheduling
- Critical path
- Baselines
- Task splitting
- Resource management
- Undo/redo
Export to PDF, Excel, and CSV runs client-side through the Syncfusion export modules. Framework wrappers cover React, Angular, Vue, and Blazor, giving Syncfusion the widest framework reach of any Gantt in this comparison.
Syncfusion Gantt is the better product for any team that is not already locked into Angular-only development. It handles scheduling logic inside the library, which removes the need for a custom auto-scheduling implementation.
Syncfusion Gantt tradeoffs
CSS setup requires either a combined Syncfusion theme file or separate imports for the Gantt component and all its dependencies. The Gantt.Inject() call for each feature module adds a setup step that teams often miss.
Commercial licensing uses custom pricing with no published rates. Teams that outgrow the Community License criteria need to contact Syncfusion sales for pricing.
The Syncfusion JavaScript and React MCP servers communicate via stdio, not HTTP. They require MCP client configuration with an API key rather than a public HTTP URL. Syncfusion ships no dedicated Claude Code skill.
Syncfusion Gantt has no canvas rendering path for applications that need to display hundreds of thousands of rows with smooth scrolling. ScheduleJS is the more specialized option when that rendering model is the deciding requirement.
Syncfusion Gantt cost
The Community License is free for organizations with less than $1 million in annual gross revenue, five or fewer developers, and ten or fewer total employees (and less than $3 million in external funding). Teams generate a license key from the Syncfusion account portal at no charge.
Commercial licensing uses quote-based subscription pricing. Syncfusion does not publish standard rates. Teams need to contact sales for current terms.
Syncfusion Gantt developer experience
TypeScript type definitions ship with the package. Documentation at syncfusion.com includes live examples for all Gantt features with an in-browser code editor.
Framework wrappers for React (@syncfusion/ej2-react-gantt), Angular (@syncfusion/ej2-angular-gantt), and Vue (@syncfusion/ej2-vue-gantt) are on the same version cycle as the core. Blazor support is also available.
The taskFields configuration maps each data property to a Gantt field. The component works with existing data schemas without transformation.
Syncfusion Gantt AI support
Syncfusion ships MCP servers for its product line. The JavaScript server (@syncfusion/javascript-assistant) provides documentation retrieval and component code generation via stdio for VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and JetBrains. Syncfusion also provides a React MCP server. Syncfusion ships no dedicated Claude Code skill.
The multi-step setup (theme CSS, Gantt.Inject(), and registerLicense()) is the main friction point for AI agents. An agent without current Syncfusion documentation is likely to omit one of these steps.
Use Syncfusion Gantt when scheduling should live in the component
Syncfusion Gantt fits organizations that qualify for the Community License and need a full scheduling feature set at no cost. It is also the better option for teams using React, Vue, or Blazor, since ScheduleJS only supports Angular.
ScheduleJS
ScheduleJS is a commercial Angular Gantt library developed by AISO SA (Switzerland). The core rendering engine uses the HTML Canvas API rather than DOM elements, which avoids DOM-related bottlenecks when displaying large activity sets. ScheduleJS describes its viewport as supporting smooth scrolling with hundreds of thousands of rows.
ScheduleJS is best treated as a visualization and interaction framework. Rows map to resources, activities map to task bars, layers group activities within a row, and ActivityLink objects draw typed links between activities. Project scheduling logic such as auto-scheduling, critical path calculation, and constraint enforcement is the application's responsibility.
Installing ScheduleJS
ScheduleJS is not on the public npm registry. It requires purchasing a license from AISO SA and downloading the package directly. After receiving the package, place it in a local_modules/ folder in the project root and install it as a local file reference:
yarn add file:./local_modules/schedule
A new Angular project provides the required shell. The ScheduleJS published manual lists Angular 11-era dependency versions. Teams should confirm the supported Angular version with AISO before starting a new implementation.
ng new project-name --style=scss
The install adds all Angular dependencies automatically. The license key must be registered before any ScheduleJS component mounts.
The following shows a team sprint Gantt with four members across a one-week horizon. Setup spans three files: the Angular module, the component class, and the component template.

Four setup details require attention:
- The
LicenseManager.setLicenseFromKey()call must come before any ScheduleJS component mounts. - The package name is
schedule, notschedulejs. All import paths use'schedule'. - Resources are
Rowsubclasses and task bars areMutableActivityBasesubclasses. The library uses class extension rather than configuration objects. - Extend
DefaultScheduleGanttComponentBaseto wire up the Angular lifecycle.

ScheduleJS is best when Angular canvas rendering is the bottleneck
Canvas rendering is the core differentiator. ScheduleJS draws directly to a canvas element, avoiding the DOM node overhead that accumulates at large row counts. The library handles hundreds of thousands of rows with smooth navigation.
Canvas provides pixel-level control, letting teams build fully custom activity renderers, row heights, and interaction layers without CSS specificity conflicts. Three layout types ship out of the box: Gantt layout, chart/histogram layout, and agenda layout.
Teams migrating from FlexGanttFX (the Java desktop predecessor) get a close API mapping, which reduces rewrite scope when moving to the web.
ScheduleJS beats Syncfusion Gantt only when canvas rendering performance at extreme scale is a demonstrated bottleneck and the target framework is Angular.
ScheduleJS tradeoffs
ScheduleJS is Angular-only. React, Vue, and vanilla JavaScript applications require a different library.
The library provides ActivityLink visualization, but not a project scheduling engine. Applications need custom implementation for:
- Auto-scheduling
- Critical path calculation
- Baselines
- Task splitting
- Undo/redo
- PDF or Excel export
The install process does not use a public registry. Every developer and CI/CD environment must receive the ScheduleJS package through a separate distribution step before running yarn add file:./local_modules/schedule. This adds friction at onboarding and in automated pipelines.
ScheduleJS leaves all scheduling logic to the application, while Syncfusion Gantt includes auto-scheduling and critical path analysis. A team that needs those features cannot use ScheduleJS without building that layer separately.
ScheduleJS cost
AISO SA publishes pricing from 1,500 EUR for the ScheduleJS Enterprise perpetual license. The license includes one year of updates, support, and maintenance for one application and one developer. Three license schemes are listed: internal use, OEM, and SaaS.
ScheduleJS developer experience
TypeScript definitions ship with the package. Documentation at schedulejs.com covers the developer manual and API reference.
The data model differs from DOM-based Gantt libraries. Resources are Row subclasses, activities are MutableActivityBase subclasses, and layers group activities within a row. Developers coming from property-based configuration libraries need time to adjust to the class-extension pattern.
The DefaultScheduleGanttComponentBase handles Angular lifecycle integration. Extending it is the recommended starting point for new components.
ScheduleJS AI support
ScheduleJS ships no MCP server, no Claude Code skill, and no built-in AI assistant.
The local file install is the main blocker for AI agents. An agent following the standard npm install pattern generates npm install schedulejs or npm install schedule, both of which fail because the package is not on the public registry. The class-extension data model diverges from the configuration-object patterns common in Gantt examples, so agents unfamiliar with ScheduleJS are likely to generate incorrect code for row and activity definitions.
Use ScheduleJS when Angular needs canvas-scale rendering
ScheduleJS suits Angular teams that need canvas-level performance for very large datasets, pixel-level rendering control, or a migration path from a FlexGanttFX desktop application. It fits applications that provide their own scheduling logic and already show DOM overhead at the required row count.
Which one to pick
Syncfusion Gantt is the right choice for project management applications that need built-in scheduling logic. Qualifying organizations get these features under the Community License at no cost:
- Auto-scheduling
- Critical path
- Baselines
- Task splitting
- Resource management
- Undo/redo
The library supports React, Angular, Vue, and Blazor, and client-side PDF and Excel export ships in the base package.
ScheduleJS suits only a narrow use case: Angular teams with very large datasets, a need for pixel-level canvas rendering control, or a migration from FlexGanttFX. The application must provide its own scheduling logic. If the dataset does not push DOM rendering to its limits, Syncfusion Gantt is the more capable starting point at a lower total cost.
Neither library ships a Claude Code skill. Syncfusion ships JavaScript and React stdio MCP servers. ScheduleJS ships no AI tooling.
Bryntum Gantt
Bryntum Gantt is the stronger commercial choice when your application needs auto-scheduling, critical path, and baselines beyond Angular without Community License qualification. It supports React, Angular, Vue, and plain JavaScript, publishes per-developer pricing, and provides an HTTP MCP server for AI-assisted development.
Bryntum also provides a free Gantt trial download. Trial packages and framework wrappers are available on the public npm registry, and the Bryntum Gantt npm repository guide explains licensed package access.
